Skin and makeup needs can change By Al Varela Dear Al: I have worn the same brand of makeup foundation for many years and have never had any problems until recently. At the end of the day my face seems to be very shiny and oily. What can I do? This is a question that I am frequently asked when giving makeup seminars. It is always difficult to know exactly what problem you are experiencing with the limited information provided in your question. There could be several reasons why you are getting oily after wearing your makeup all day. Many times the problem is actually in the foundation itself. Even though it is the same brand and packaging, the formula has probably changed. Some cosmetic companies use the same manufacturer to make their product and just use different packaging. At times the manufacturer will change the formula used for the makeup for various reasons and not even the cosmetic company knows that this has been done. So the foundation you are using may have changed over the years. One solution to this is to use a brand of cosmetics that has their own lab and factory. These companies have more control over the formulation of their product and the makeup will be more consistent. It is also possible that the moisture level in your skin is not the same as it was years ago and chances are you haven’t changed the method or product you use for cleansing the skin. This is also a common reason for a foundation to react differently. If your skin fluctuates between oily, normal and dry complexions, you should also adjust your skin care products to compensate for the changes. Many times the weather plays a big part in this. The correct cleanser, toner and moisturizer is essential to maintaining the proper balance of your skin and enhances the performance of your makeup. With all the variables involved in wearing makeup, the thing that really amazes me is that you haven’t changed your foundation for so long. Where is your sense of adventure? Don’t be afraid to experiment with new colors, foundations and skin care products. I hear many women say that as soon as they love a certain makeup, it gets discontinued. I say, so what? Change, explore and most importantly, have fun with makeup. |
