As skin changes, makeup should, too

By Al Varela

Dear Al: Even though I am a very senior citizen, I still like to keep up with what's going on in the world of cosmetics. At 75 plus, I'd like some skin care suggestions for this climate. Keeping in mind my well-earned wrinkles are here to stay. They've been earned. Could you also recommend a cover product for a small scar with a bluish tinge from a sports injury?

Beauty knows no bounds, not even age! Some of the most beautiful women I have seen are older women who have learned to accentuate their natural appearance as it changes with time. Almost everything I recommend about the use of color on your skin applies at any age.

You must be aware that as you grow older your hair and skin will begin to change. There are things you can do to make that graying hair and changing skin compliment each other.

Be careful to never apply too much makeup. It is also important to find a foundation that works best with your skin. If you're concerned about wrinkles, the wrong foundation color can imbed into wrinkles, making them more visible.

Often women choose to change their hair color when it starts to gray, usually deciding to cover the gray and darken it. This can change the contrast between your hair color and your already changing skin. This contrast becomes harsh and actually makes you look older. Softer makeup is important, especially if a woman allows the gray to show.

At some point a woman must say, "it's okay to go gray." This new color-- the grayish hair and changing skin--looks right! This makes a statement about a women's status in life and an expression of her natural beauty.

Because El Paso's dry climate and high altitude are very drying to your skin, this can leave our body with not enough moisture, so we have to keep it well-hydrated. You need to keep your skin hydrated by using a makeup with moisture barriers. And, don't forget to drink plenty of water.

A cover product for your slight bluish imperfection is the concealer from TLeCLERC. This concealer has a range that goes from beige, blue, yellow and pink. For your particular need, the yellow one would work very well to counter the blue. Remember that the concealer should be applied with a tapping motion under your foundation.

A big part of being beautiful is not only having an enthusiasm for life, but being willing to adapt as we change, no matter what your age.
